Kelly’s Heroes Demonstration at the Relay for Life Benefit
at the Rogersville City Park
May 2009

Jerry Sullivan along with fellow black belts Dwayne "Stub Horton, Marty Linkous, Ken Byrd, also Daniel Banks and many other team members from Kelly's Heroes held a demonstration at the Relay for Life Cancer Benefit at the Rogersville City Park. Parents and kids alike enjoyed the demonstration and were impressed with ability of Jerry and the team. Jerry loves to share his knowledge and do it with a positive and light hearted attitude. Jerry has been so much at the center of the Heroes school, much more than an instructor. The Heroes are proud and honored to have Jerry and the others represent the dojo in support for the Relay for Life effort to raise cancer awareness.

Heroes visit Holcomb Dojo- 6-18-09 in St Louis
Kelly's Heroes vist to David Holcomb's Dojo in St. Louis‏
article by David Holcomb

On June 18, 2009, Kelly Markham, Dave Park and Jerry Sullivan traveled to St. Louis, Missouri.  David Holcomb, owner of Holcomb’s Isshinryu invited the trio to St. Louis to participate in a black belt test.  This was the first black belt test for Holcomb’s Isshinryu. The test was held over two days, June 18th & June 20th.  Dan Rogers earned his Sho Dan rank.  All of the students thoroughly enjoyed having Kelly, Jerry and Dave share their knowledge, skill and spirit of Isshinryu Karate. A special thank you to Kelly Markham for driving Dave Park to St. Louis.  Since his accident, Dave Park has been recovering well and the students in St. Louis were excited to see him once again.  Over the last 5 years, Dave Park has visited Holcomb’s Isshinryu numerous times, as his long time student David Holcomb founded the studio.

Aside from the test, all of the students and families involved want to express our gratitude for their presence in St. Louis.  Dave Park was telling jokes as usual, along with Jerry Sullivan’s ever present smile as a constant positive reinforcement to the students.  Last but not least, to Kelly Markham and his hard hitting teaching methods that left an impression on all the students. We are very thankful and look forward to them and hopefully other IIKA instructors that would be willing to make the drive.  It would be our pleasure to host.

Thank you and God bless,

David Holcomb (Go Dan) and students

KELLY’S HEROES VISIT HONEYCUTT DOJO FOR WORKOUT AND PROMOTIONS

On Monday evening, May 4, Kelly Markham and seven of his Heroes visited the Honeycutt School of Karate in Johnson City. Jerry Sullivan and Kurt Markham took the kids class to one end of the gym, while Kelly, Snake Smith, Teresa Barnett, Marty Linkous, and Ron Stapleton worked with the adults on kumite techniques. After the techniques were taught, everyone geared up and matched in continuous rounds of two minutes, while the visiting masters worked around the room, correcting techniques and teaching new ones. During the resting period, Ron and Wade Honeycutt gave a demo on weapons disarmament, followed by Dixie Webb leading a cool down time with some yoga techniques. Lastly, the dojo made two promotions. Dixie Webb was promoted to Roku Dan and Charles Griffin, III (Chuck) was promoted to Yo Dan.
